11 Best Plagiarism Checker Tools in 2025 (Free & Paid Options Reviewed) | by Anangsha Alammyan | The Startup | May, 2025

Originality.ai claims to be the most accurate plagiarism checker, even more accurate than Grammarly and Copyscape. This tool also has an “AI Checker”, “Fact Checker”, “Readability Checker”, “Grammar Checker”, “Site Scan” tool, “Content Optimizer”, “AI Humanizer”, and even offers a Chrome extension for improved accessibility.

How to Use Originality AI to Check for Plagiarism in 2025

  • Go to Originality.ai.
  • Sign up using your email or Google to get started.

Let’s use a different sample from an existing research paper online to test this tool. You can either paste the text to be scanned, provide a URL, or even upload a file.

The maximum number of words allowed is 1,000 for the free plan. Let’s see the result —

As you can see, even with the free plan, Originality.ai has clearly listed 6 websites and 3 matched phrases. The link mentioned leads straight to the research paper available online.

Now, I’m going to ask ChatGPT to generate a human-like passage and test it for plagiarism. Here’s what I got–

Originality.ai couldn’t detect any plagiarism in the text, which just goes to show how good LLMs are becoming. I’m a little curious, to be honest, what happens if I run this through Originality.ai’s AI detector?

92% AI. The “AI Checker” of Originality.ai definitely works.

I’m going to test the “Plagiarism Checker” once more. What if the ChatGPT– generated passage was a scientific abstract instead?

As you can see, Originality.ai couldn’t detect any plagiarism either, indicating that the passage is absolutely unique and hasn’t been copied from other sources, which is true.

I guess this is a loophole, and precisely why plagiarism checking and AI detection must go hand-in-hand in order to determine the accuracy of a content piece.

Overall, Originality.ai is pretty impressive, as it could easily detect plagiarism in the first case, and also has a good AI detector. In the other two cases too, I would say Originality.ai has rightly assessed the same.

Pros of Originality AI

Detailed match reporting, AI detection, fact-checking, site scans, and multiple tools in one platform.

Cons of Originality AI

Free plan has a word limit of 1,000; not entirely accurate with AI-generated scientific abstracts.

Pricing

Let’s take a look at the pricing plans of Originality.ai.

The “Pay as you go” plan is a one-time $30 plan that gives you 3,000 credits and access to all the core tools like AI detection, plagiarism checks, and SEO optimization. I would say this is perfect if you just need such tools occasionally.

The “Pro” plan is $12.95/month (billed annually) and comes with 2,000 credits every month, plus features like file uploads, full site scans, and team management. Again, this is great for individuals or small teams who use such tools regularly.

The “Enterprise” plan is $136.58/month (billed annually) and gives 15,000 credits, priority support, API access, and a full year of scan history. If you run an agency, I would definitely suggest opting for this plan.
