Orange Expands Satellite Reach with Eutelsat Deal


Orange has entered a new agreement with Eutelsat to incorporate low earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity into its communications services. This marks a strategic step by the French telecoms company as LEO technology gains momentum, though the move itself isn’t particularly revolutionary.

The focus of the deal is on strengthening service delivery for enterprise and government clients. Orange aims to offer secure, high-capacity, and low-latency connections, especially in regions with limited terrestrial infrastructure. The service will combine Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO network with Orange’s ground-based systems, ensuring continuous and secure coverage even in hard-to-reach areas.

Jean Louis Le Roux, Executive Vice President of Orange International Networks, emphasized the importance of investing in a European LEO solution that delivers resilient and customized connectivity. He highlighted the role of this partnership in supporting the digital transformation of Orange’s clientele, although no financial details of the deal were disclosed.

While the technology itself may not generate major excitement, this collaboration reflects a broader industry shift. Telecom providers are increasingly turning to satellite connectivity to support ubiquitous service coverage. Orange’s partnership with Eutelsat serves as a foundation for expanding its service capabilities and adapting to the evolving demands of the telecommunications landscape.

This isn’t the first collaboration between the two companies. Orange already works with Eutelsat in France to provide satellite-based home broadband. Earlier in the year, they also signed a deal to extend similar services to the Middle East and Africa by integrating Orange’s local infrastructure with Eutelsat’s geostationary satellite network.

Eutelsat expressed enthusiasm about the growing partnership, calling it an important step in helping Orange deliver consistent and premium connectivity solutions across a global footprint.
