Pinterest Shares Tips on How to Build Your Pin Community

Pinterest has shared some more tips on how to maximize your Pin approach, with its latest round of pointers focused on growing your audience, and establishing community in the app.

Last week, Pinterest shared some key Pin marketing tips to help you on your way, while it’s also shared notes on key shopping campaign strategies for your planning.

In combination, Pinterest’s series of pointers could provide some critical guidance for your Pin strategy. And with 570 million users who predominantly come to the platform with high shopping intent, it could be worth considering for your 2025 holiday season push.

Pinterest has provided 6 community-building tips, designed to help you map out a more effective Pin content approach.

Here’s a look at Pinterest’s audience engagement notes.

1. Create fresh content weekly

Consistently always plays a part in building a community, and Pinterest advises that brands and creators should look to post regularly to keep their audience engaged.

As per Pinterest:

β€œFresh Pins keep your audience engaged and help you to reach new people regularly. It’s best to add more content every week to sustain engagement with your current audiences and reach more people over time.”

But Pinterest advises against setting a specific number of Pins per week, with the focus ideally being on the content itself.

β€œYou’ll see the most success with inspiring, relevant content that shows people using your brand in realistic settings. Just steer clear of abstract images or lifestyle imagery that don’t show your brand.”

Pinterest also advises experimentation with different content formats to maintain audience interest.

2. Align to big marketing moments

Pinterest says that its users come to the platform for inspiration related to big life moments and events, and that creators should tap into this to boost exposure potential,

β€œThink about the type of information that someone needs for a specific moment, then put your spin on it.”

There are a range of opportunities on this front, and it’s worth considering how people are searching for Pin ideas, and what you can do to align your Pins with that.

You can use Pinterest trends to uncover the concepts and celebrations most relevant to your brand.

3. Use trends to inform your content strategy

Which leads into the next point:

β€œPinterest trends last nearly twice as long as trends on other platforms, so they’re a great opportunity to build sustained engagement.”

Pinterest advises that brands should look to utilize Pinterest Trends to find the right moments and events that relate to your products, and build that into your content approach.

4. Prep your Pins for search

With most people searching for specific items and ideas on Pinterest, you also need to consider Pinterest-specific SEO, and how people are coming across your content.

Pinterest advises that brands and creators should follow its advice for Pin set-up β€œto ensure that your Pins show up in the right kinds of search results.”

β€œGenerally, we recommend filling in all the Pin fields every time you create one. Some fields don’t display to Pinners, but power our recommendation engines behind the scenes. For example, you should always include a Pin title and description, using relevant keywords to help contextualize your content. You might also see the option to tag Pins with topics before publishing.”

Finally, Pinterest says that brands should add topics when it’s an option, in order to further boost your exposure potential.Β Β

β€œThese same general rules apply to your boards. Give every board a proper title and description, as people can also discover boards in their search results. Use clear, descriptive language so your content shows up for relevant audiences and contexts.”

5. Encourage saves

Pinterest says that saves are among the various signals that it uses to guide its algorithm, and as such, you should be looking to directly guide people towards Pin saves wherever you can.

β€œEncourage your audience to save your Pins with clear language and specific CTAs. When more people save your Pins, you’ll get a halo of additional reach over time.”

6. Show that you’re invested

Pinterest’s final tip relates to engagement, and ensuring that you’re responding to your audience.

β€œKeep an eye on your Pin comments, and respond to people who need help. And most importantly, be authentic. Building audience trust is an ongoing process, so make sure to signal your appreciation for followers and people who engage with your Pins.”

That same advice applies to virtually all platforms, with audience engagement providing another opportunity to build connection and community.

Some handy tips, which could help you build a more effective Pin approach.
