AI Prompts That Go Beyond Content Creation

It’s no secret that AI is revolutionizing social media marketing. AI tools like ChatGPT are valuable resources for generating post ideas for your social media channels, but that’s not their only use case.

Beyond writing social posts, you can also use it for analyzing competitor posts, crafting crisis responses, and planning campaigns.

What can AI help social marketers with beyond writing posts?

Using AI for more than generating post copy is a great way to free up more of your time, allowing you to focus on big-picture planning, reporting, and other important aspects of running a social media program. Let’s explore a few of the other use cases where you can use AI.

If a competitor’s content is outperforming yours, the reason might not be immediately obvious. Rather than guessing or diving into a time-consuming benchmarking exercise, you can use AI to uncover insights quickly.

Here’s a sample prompt for when you want to understand why a competitor’s post popped off:

“Take a look at this Instagram post from my company profile https://www.socialmediatoday.com/spons/ai-prompts-that-go-beyond-content-creation/756199/. Now, look at this other post from a competitor account that is getting more engagement https://www.socialmediatoday.com/spons/ai-prompts-that-go-beyond-content-creation/756199/. Please compare my Instagram post to my competitor and analyze the differences. Then tell me what I need to do, so I can increase engagement on future posts.”

Consumers are increasingly turning to social media for customer service, so as social managers, you are on the front lines of crisis management. It can be helpful to anticipate certain risks or common issues that may arise for a company in your industry.

You can easily use AI for this, giving it a prompt like: “Please come up with a list of potential risks that could escalate into a crisis for an e-commerce business, specializing in all-natural shower products including shampoos, conditioners, and soaps.”

This can serve as a valuable starting point for developing a comprehensive crisis plan and response templates.

Lastly, using AI to analyze post performance is a great way to improve engagement for future campaigns. You can use a prompt like this to get deeper insights and ideas to address shortfalls:

“Please read the attached quarterly report showing our LinkedIn post engagement. Provide recommendations for the optimal time of day we should be posting for maximum engagement. Please split up your recommendations into the following categories: optimal time for comments, optimal time for shares, and optimal time for impressions.”

Tips for writing AI prompts

Vague AI prompts lead to vague results, so specificity and clear intentions are very important to maximizing the output. Here are some tips to keep in mind when writing AI prompts for social media:

1) Provide objectives

Whether you’re asking AI to give you ideas for a single post or an entire campaign, it’s important to tell it what your objectives are first. Adding this bit of context will strengthen the output and make it much more impactful. Objectives are your opportunity to explain what you want the post to accomplish.

For example: “The main intention of this post is to build followers and encourage discussion in the comments. It will not include a link, so please avoid overly promotional language.”

2) Be specific about what you want

Objectives help AI understand the quantitative or qualitative goals of the post, but beyond that, you need to be specific about what the post should include.

Tell it any parameters that can help differentiate your post from others.

Don’t worry about over-explaining. This is what an AI prompt needs in order to avoid overly derivative content.

Here’s an example: “We are a women’s shoe company specializing in comfort without sacrificing style. We are about to release our most popular style in 3 new colors. Please write 5 social posts leading up to the reveal, which will include a special promo code for the first 100 people who comment on the post. The language should be classy and fun.

3) Use a character

Avoid generic outputs by using “Act as if…” as a starting point.

For example: “Act as if you are a mid-level manager tasked with researching software solutions. Write 5 humorous social posts about the pain points they experience”

This context will allow the AI generator to produce more specific copy for you.

You may not need to edit much if you use these tips, but it’s a good rule of thumb to never blindly use what AI gives you. Always double-check for factual information and keep an eye out for assumptions it’s made about your company.
