Reddit posts strong Q1 results

Reddit posted a strong result in Q1 2026, with steady increases in usage and revenue, as it continues to establish itself as a key connector for human insights amid an increasingly sea of artificial intelligence-powered information.

First, on users: Reddit rose to 126.8 million daily active users in the period, up from 121.4 million in Q4 2025.

Adding 5 million more users isn’t a huge amount, and only a million of those extra users came from the U.S., Reddit’s top revenue market. Yet, Reddit continues to see a lot more weekly actives, which rose by more than 20 million in the period.

This is a trend that’s unique to Reddit. For most social platforms, the DAU to MAU count is roughly double; Snapchat, for example, has 474 million DAU, and over 934 million MAU.

But Reddit is different. Reddit’s weekly and monthly usage numbers are more like 1:4, which reflects a significant variance in usage, making it harder to compare Reddit’s performance to other social apps.

Basically, Reddit sees a lot more people coming to the app inconsistently, which is likely related to the amount of citations that Reddit content sees in Google Search and AI chatbot responses. Indeed, in an interview with CNBC last week, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said that “Reddit is one of the primary sources for that sort of information that AI’s crave, but also that people crave.”

That means that while people might not be coming to the app daily, they are being funnelled to the app for relevant answers. Which is a different consideration for marketers, because Reddit may not have the captive audience of other platforms, but it does have a cohort of users who come to the app with targeted intent. That could make it a valuable option for contextually relative ad placement.

In other words, while Reddit might not be the best for brand awareness or increasing brand equity through repeated exposure, it could be valuable for reaching the right people at the right time in their discovery process.

In terms of revenue, Reddit’s ad business is going from strength to strength, posting a 69% year-over-year increase in the quarter, with $663 million in total revenue.

Reddit’s revenue increase was primarily driven by increased advertiser interest, with ad revenue up 74%. The company’s other revenue increased 15% year-over-year to $39 million.

Huffman said in a conference call: “This marks our seventh consecutive quarter with revenue growth over 60%, with industry-leading gross margins over 90%, an Adjusted EBITDA margin of 40%, and record cash flow of more than $300 million. At the same time, our capital expenditures remained low at just $1 million, underscoring the advantage of Reddit’s capital-light model.”

So while other businesses are spending a lot on AI development, Reddit is benefiting from being the data source for those projects, as opposed to putting up massive amounts of money to form its own AI infrastructure.

That could pose a longer-term risk, in that Reddit won’t have the same level of control over AI development. But if the platform can remain a valuable data source, it could continue to drive significant business benefits from acting as a data source for these tools.

In terms of future opportunities in the app itself, Reddit said that around 40% of conversations on Reddit are commercial in nature, meaning people are actively discussing products, services and purchase decisions. That could present more opportunities for ad partners and help to solidify Reddit as a key discovery engine.

Reddit also said that more middle-market and small businesses are adopting its AI-powered Reddit Max campaigns, in order to optimize lower funnel objectives.

“Max campaigns unlock performance and deliver AI-powered insights to measure performance across audiences,” Reddit said. “Advertisers see 17% lower costs and over 25% more conversions with Max campaigns.”

All in all, Reddit is in a strong position as a key data provider for AI tools. The platform also provides a point of differentiation for searchers who are seeking human advice on products and services. The platform’s up and downvote system also provides a built-in filter to scope for relevance, which is another element that drives more value in Reddit’s data stream.
