A Glimpse into the Future of Automotive Testing

Automotive Testing Expo (ATE), the leading global event covering every aspect of automotive testing technologies, kicks off on October 22 in Novi, Michigan.  Over the three days, automotive OEMs, equipment manufacturers, test labs, and tech leaders will gather to explore cutting-edge emulation and testing solutions. This year’s discussions will focus on electrification, software-defined vehicles (SDV), cybersecurity, and vehicle-to-everything (V2X).

We’re excited to host a full slate of activities, including live demonstrations, technical sessions, and networking opportunities. Our goal is to bring actionable insights to help you tackle today’s testing challenges while driving the innovation of tomorrow’s mobility.

Technical Session: Unlocking the Potential of V2G

At the forefront of energy and automotive innovation is vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. A recent case study for Munich, Germany, projected that by 2030, V2G could supply 200 MW of power — 20% of the city’s peak summer load. While V2G might hold the key to stabilizing grids and optimizing energy distribution, it comes with its share of challenges. The multitude of V2G architectures and the evolving standards demand rigorous testing. To future-proof EV / EVSE designs, advanced emulation technology offers the flexibility to test against emerging standards and trends in a virtual environment.

During the ATE 2024, Keysight expert Jim Duffy will delve into the complexities of V2G testing, opportunities for distributed energy resources (DERs), and emerging V2G standards. He will also cover how Keysight’s emulation solutions enable OEMs and suppliers to bring real-world testing into the lab, bridging the gap between EVs, EVSE, and the grid.

Product Demonstrations

Our team has designed five demo stations that equip you with the solutions needed to ensure robust, reliable, and secure electric and autonomous vehicle systems.

Comprehensive V2X test

This demo highlights how Keysight’s V2X testing solutions validate multiple use-cases in the lab, on the track, and on the road. Our award-winning WaveBee toolchain simplifies in-vehicle integration, ensuring fast compliance and interoperability verification across the ITS environments. With the UXM 5G wireless test platform, we extend V2X testing from the application to physical layer.

Accurate EMC test

For test labs, enhancing throughput of EMC test is essential for assessing more products and certifying them faster. Keysight Solution Engineer Jon Kinney will present our standard-compliant PXE EMI Test Receiver and its unique (RTSC), which enables gapless signal capture and analysis of intermittent disturbances with an FFT bandwidth of up to 350 MHz. You’ll also get a close look at the FieldFox handheld analyzer, a comprehensive, software-defined solution for EMI troubleshooting in the field.

High-speed in-vehicle network (IVN) test

Keysight’s IVN solution validates OSI layers 1 to 7, ensuring reliability, signal integrity, and performance across automotive Ethernet, MIPI A-PHY, and other digital links. Additionally, we will demonstrate the network-attached storage (NAS) network protocol testing solutions, including Novus One and Novus Mini, for AS, Qav, Qbv, Qbu, and MACsec.

Robust automotive cybersecurity test

Numerous modern vehicle systems — infotainment, engine control units (ECUs), vehicle networks — are potential entry points for physical attacks. This demo shows how Keysight effectively tests across multiple physical interfaces, improves test coverage, and ensures compliance with regulations such as UN R155.

Holistic EV charging test

As EV design cycles shorten and charging infrastructure expands, ensuring EV and EVSE interoperability and conformance is essential. This demo features the Keysight Scienlab Charging Discovery System (CDS) as an all-in-one solution for testing all EV and EVSE charging interfaces. You will see how it enables automation of functional, conformance, interoperability, and quality tests for R&D, end-of-line (EOL), and EMC applications.

Connect with Keysight Experts

During both days of the expo, you can book a meeting with our team of experts at Keysight Booth 1030. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your specific testing challenges and explore new solutions.
