Boldyn Networks Expands into Germany with SML Acquisition

The UK-based shared infrastructure provider, Boldyn Networks, has announced its latest acquisition, Germany’s private 5G and Industry 4.0 integrator, Smart Mobile Labs (SML). This move marks Boldyn Networks’ entry into the German market, a key region in the private 5G landscape. While the financial terms remain undisclosed, the strategic deal highlights Boldyn’s ambitions in expanding its portfolio and influence.

Smart Mobile Labs holds partnerships with giants like Nokia and has been pivotal in several high-profile private 5G projects in Germany. Notably, SML facilitated the deployment of Finland’s first private 5G standalone system at the University of Kaiserslautern. The company also collaborates with Verizon Business and Audi on significant initiatives, showcasing equipment from Nokia and AWS.

SML stands out for its proprietary technology in video signal distribution, especially its live streaming software, Edge Video Orchestrator (EVO). As Boldyn continues to expand its global footprint, it adds SML’s expertise to its growing list of acquisitions, including Finnish private network specialist Edzcom and U.S.-focused Apogee Telecom. This aggressive acquisition strategy underscores its commitment to enhancing 5G solutions across various sectors.

According to Justin Berger, Boldyn’s group chief strategy officer, “Germany is a very attractive market for mobile private networks. By bringing SML’s expertise to Boldyn, we’ll be able to scale our existing private networks expertise to benefit customers looking for a partner of choice across a wider area of Europe.”

SML’s leadership team, with a collective century of experience, appears eager to join Boldyn Networks. Igor Leprince, Boldyn’s CEO, sees the acquisition as crucial for expanding their services in key European markets. Klaus Nagora, SML’s chief executive, echoed the sentiment, noting that joining forces will enable their offerings to scale both within Germany and globally.

For Smart Mobile Labs, the acquisition offers potential to innovate further and cater to evolving customer demands. Rüdiger Hnyk, SML’s COO, sees the merge as a venture to provide tailored solutions across sectors, from logistics to autonomous driving.
