Comcast Expands High-Speed Network in Indiana with New Partnerships

Comcast has announced the start of its high-speed internet network construction across several counties in Indiana. This project is part of a collaboration with the state’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program, which aims to enhance broadband accessibility and adoption. Once complete, over 10,000 residents and businesses in Fayette, Rush, Delaware, Boone, Shelby, Morgan, and Miami counties will have access to a range of services.

The investment aligns with Indiana’s strategy to ensure robust and affordable broadband coverage for its communities. As Steve Cox, Indiana’s Chief Broadband Officer, stated, “We are working to ensure that every Hoosier has access to high-speed, reliable, affordable broadband.” The collaboration with Comcast represents a step towards achieving these connectivity goals, fostering economic growth and enhancing life quality.

Over the last decade, Comcast has injected more than $80 billion into its network infrastructure across the United States. In Indiana alone, the company has spent nearly $600 million in updates over the past three years. These efforts are proving beneficial for rural areas that lack adequate internet services. According to Joni Hart, Vice President of Government Affairs for Comcast Indiana, the company’s network technology boasts 99.9% reliability, allowing residents to comfortably engage in digital learning and access online healthcare.

Indiana will soon benefit from Comcast’s extensive reach, with their fiber-rich network spanning more than 49,000 miles in the state. This infrastructure enables internet speeds exceeding a gigabit, alongside more than 65,500 WiFi hotspots. Such capability supports an array of activities, from streaming entertainment to video conferencing.

A notable feature of the project is the emphasis on cybersecurity, ensuring that users are protected as they navigate the digital landscape. The integration of multi-gigabit speeds and secure connectivity aims to provide users with a seamless online experience.

Comcast’s residential services, under the Xfinity and NOW brands, will offer a full suite of products. These include internet, video, mobile, VoIP, and home security services. Meanwhile, Comcast Business delivers tailored solutions to support local enterprises.

The network’s development is also set to enhance economic mobility. Through initiatives like the Internet Essentials program, Comcast is making strides in bridging the digital divide by providing affordable internet access to eligible low-income families. Since its inception in 2011, this program has connected over 772,000 Indiana residents to the internet.
