AI cloud company CoreWeave is making waves with its latest announcement. The company plans a substantial investment, exceeding $6 billion, to establish a large-scale data center in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, dedicated to bolstering high-performance artificial intelligence workloads.
Key details of the project indicate the initial setup will support 100 megawatts (MW) of power capacity. Interestingly, there remains an option to scale this up to 300 MW. This significant move aligns with CoreWeave’s broader strategy of expanding its U.S. data center footprint. The facility will feature advanced AI computing infrastructure, making it a vital component of the company’s future vision.
This announcement was timed with a CEO roundtable with President Donald Trump at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit. CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator said, “This data center will accelerate innovation and drive economic growth across the region.”
The facility’s construction is slated to create around 600 temporary jobs. Moreover, the site should employ approximately 70 full-time staff initially, with plans to expand the team to 175. This underscores its importance not only as a technology hub but also as a regional economic catalyst.
Partnerships play a crucial role in this venture. CoreWeave is collaborating with Chirisa Technology Parks and Machine Investment Group for the project’s co-development. Their joint efforts will focus on workforce recruitment and community engagement, ensuring the new infrastructure serves both technological and socio-economic goals.
Additionally, this move will enable CoreWeave to pursue infrastructure financing strategies that will fund capital expenditures efficiently while reducing its overall cost of capital. The broader implication is a greater control over a critical power footprint with provisions on future capacity.
