Crusoe Secures $11.6B for Cutting-Edge AI Data Hub

Crusoe has made a significant move in the AI sector, securing $11.6 billion to enhance the Stargate AI data center campus in Texas. This development promises a substantial expansion, focusing on next-generation infrastructure. The project consists of eight buildings supporting up to 400,000 Nvidia GB200 NVL72 units with cutting-edge cooling and renewable wind energy.

Located in Abilene, this site will serve as the flagship for OpenAI’s Stargate initiative. This initiative, with a projected $500 billion price tag, aims to create the most extensive AI data center network in U.S. history. It seeks to advance AI capabilities across various industries, including scientific research and automation.

Crusoe is partnering with Blue Owl Capital and Primary Digital Infrastructure to spearhead the project. They are constructing six new data center buildings, adding to the two already underway. The eight buildings aim to be operational by mid-2026, prepared for high-intensity AI tasks. Each facility is engineered for top performance levels, providing infrastructure suitable for AI training and inference.

CEO Chase Lochmiller of Crusoe highlighted the significance of this development: “Abilene will host one of the largest clusters of GPUs in the world, bringing thousands of jobs to the local community while delivering tens of billions of dollars in value to the economy.” His statement underscores the project’s potential economic impact.

Bill Stein from Primary Digital Infrastructure emphasized the collaboration: “By partnering with Crusoe and Blue Owl, we are collectively delivering vital capacity… with the scale, speed, and sustainability required to fuel AI innovation.”

This initiative is part of the expansive Stargate project, endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump. The project aims to establish a vast network of AI data centers, providing the necessary resources for advanced AI models. OpenAI, along with SoftBank and Oracle, leads this endeavor. OpenAI is known for its cutting-edge AI vision and models, while SoftBank offers funding and strategic support. Oracle contributes with its cloud computing expertise.
