Ericsson and Ooredoo Qatar have forged a meaningful collaboration to propel digital transformation for enterprises and the public sector in Qatar. This strategic step aligns with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aiming to create industry-specific 5G solutions, including private and dedicated networks for vital sectors such as manufacturing and oil and gas.
The agreement focuses on leveraging a dual-mode core and cutting-edge radio technologies to introduce mission-critical solutions for public safety, digital airspace, and railway systems. These advancements ensure network robustness, security, and optimized Quality of Service (QoS). Furthermore, this partnership ventures into sustainability initiatives, aiming to use 5G technology to minimize environmental impact and support a more sustainable digital landscape.
Through the MoU, Ericsson will provide its Private 5G solutions and facilitate access to a global network of best practices and insights for Ooredoo. The alliance will extend to discussions with enterprises and government bodies, focusing on 5G’s role in sustainability.
Thani Al Malki, chief business officer at Ooredoo Qatar, emphasized the dynamic change, stating that “Enterprises are increasingly adopting digitalization and automation to enhance efficiency, unlock revenue potential, and drive innovation. Through this latest partnership with Ericsson on private 5G solutions, we aim to deliver advanced use cases across multiple industries in Qatar — ranging from autonomous operations to mission-critical public services.”
Moreover, this partnership lays the groundwork for future 5G-Advanced integration. The focus will be on interference reduction and AI-driven RAN solutions for better connectivity. The rollout includes a new 5G layer, expansion of coverage, and power system updates. It also includes the introduction of NR 700 for improved coverage and mmWave technology for hotspot areas.
