Keysight acquire Firmalyzer technology to enable IoT Device Firmware analysis

Keysight has acquired the intellectual property of Firmalyzer, a firmware analysis company. With this acquisition, firmware security analysis technology will be integrated into the Keysight IoT Security Assessment and Automotive Security solutions.

This will further enhance our solution, by providing analysis into what is happening inside the IoT device itself, automatically performing firmware security analysis and reporting on security issues.

Keysight’s IoT Security Assessment now combines automated firmware analysis with our vulnerability assessments and industry leading protocol fuzzing under an integrated user interface (UI) or REST API. This comprehensive cybersecurity assessment solution ensures users are protected when IoT devices are shipped to market.

We make it easy and cost-effective for manufacturers and vendors to test IoT devices, our turnkey cybersecurity test and certification platform enables automated validation through a point-and-click interface, allowing them to quickly bring new IoT products to market without hiring a large team of cybersecurity experts.

Device manufacturers and vendors can use our automated IoT testing and validation platform to comply with international cybersecurity standards such as ETSI EN 303 645 and country specific labelling requirements such as the Cyber Trust Mark.

The firmware security analysis automatically assesses the security of firmware binaries that could contain embedded operating systems and software libraries as well as the modules developed in-house.

Access to the firmware source code is not necessary; simply upload the device’s firmware binary to our platform. The system will automatically analyze the firmware and identify any security risks.

The product not only analyzes firmware that operates with an underlying operating system but also stands out in the market by offering a specialized analysis for Bare-Metal and Monolithic firmware. This unique capability allows us to extend our security assessments beyond traditional firmware analysis. The Bare-Metal and Monolithic firmware analyzer employs static code analysis and targeted code emulation techniques, enabling it to identify a wide range of vulnerabilities.

As part of the Firmalyzer technology acquisition, the Firmalyzer leadership team joined our product group, bringing years of IoT security expertise and customer insight into Keysight.

Securing IoT devices against attacks has become exponentially more difficult for manufacturers with the demand for new devices and increased functionality. With the addition of best-of-breed firmware analysis, Keysight can provide customers and partners with a comprehensive security testing solution to identify previously unknown device vulnerabilities while assessing them for known threats, all from a single, easy-to-use interface.

Keysight is an S&P 500 technology company; we are headquartered in California and operate in over 100 countries worldwide.
