Nokia Expands IoT Capabilities with New App Marketplace

Nokia has expanded its Industrial IoT capabilities with new apps and a marketplace. The company’s MXIE edge system now includes solutions for automation, efficiency, safety, security, and sustainability. The accompanying marketplace platform allows enterprises to buy Industry 4.0 accessories and devices alongside the private 4G/5G networks.

Nokia announced collaborating with six new software vendors on its MXIE server platform. This platform also supports the company’s Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) for private networks. At the DAC Marketplace, enterprises can procure devices, applications, and services from both Nokia and third-party manufacturers. The marketplace was launched with limited products six months ago but has now expanded significantly.

The MXIE library now features applications from notable technology firms such as Bosch Rexroth, Ipsotek, and others. These applications leverage technologies like AI, environmental sensing, and connectivity to deliver unique benefits. With around 50 pre-tested Industry 4.0 applications available, the platform aims to enhance various industrial processes.

Stephan Litjens, vice president of enterprise campus edge at Nokia, stated that the expanded app portfolio on MXIE underpins Nokia’s commitment to an open, interoperable industrial edge ecosystem. Through this initiative, businesses can advance their digital transformation while ensuring safety, security, and sustainability.

Meanwhile, new partners like Accton Technology Corporation and RugGear are now offering merchant apps on the DAC platform. The DAC Marketplace allows customers and partners to integrate Industry 4.0 solutions within Nokia’s edge compute and AI platform while adhering to local laws. This integration strengthens the industrial ecosystem by offering partners a streamlined process for product integration.

Aprecomm’s Pramod Gummaraj commented on how their network analytics improve Wi-Fi performance in conjunction with Nokia’s systems. RugGear’s Maverick Chen highlighted the benefits of Nokia DAC Marketplace in accessing robust communication solutions for challenging environments. Overall, these contributions from various vendors and partners significantly enrich the options available for industrial enterprises, facilitating smoother digital transformations.
