As Threads continues to grow, Meta’s added some new features to its Threads API, which will enable third-party developers to build expanded Threads connectivity into their apps and tools.
The Threads API enables social media management platforms to integrate Threads functionality, so you can manage your Threads presence within the various dashboards and tools, helping to streamline your social media management process.
Meta first launched the Threads API in June last year, with a focus on post scheduling, and now, the Threads API is getting a range of updates.
The latest additions include:
- Location tagging for posts
- The ability to add polls and retrieve poll results
- The ability to delete posts
- More search and analysis capacity with the option to retrieve public profiles and posts
- The ability to add topic tags, and search for public posts by tags
- Expanded search capacity (including date ranges)
These are significant additions to the option, which, as noted, will make it much easier to manage and maintain your Threads presence within your broader social media process.
In addition, developers will also now be able pull in more engagement data to assist in external analysis of Threads performance, while they’ll also be able to facilitate real-time notifications on post engagements.
Threads continues to build out its tools, and become a more functional, viable platform within the broader social media landscape. The app is now up to 350 million users, while just recently, Meta appointed a new chief of the app, further separating it from Instagram.
Meta’s ultimate view is that Threads could become its next billion-user app, which would be some feat, considering Twitter, the app Threads was modelled on, has barely exceeded half of that.
But maybe, with more refinement, and the assistance of Meta’s other platforms, Threads will soon outgrow the template, and become a much bigger, more engaging platform for a broad range of topics.
