Viasat Unveils Game-Changing Digital Bus Connectivity in Brazil

Viasat, a satellite operator, unveiled its innovative Digital Bus solution in Brazil, marking a significant milestone in enhancing public transportation connectivity. The initiative partners with the Brazilian transport operator Satélite Norte, integrating Viasat hardware to provide passengers with access to Wi-Fi connectivity via both satellite and cellular networks. This technology ensures reliable online access, even in remote areas.

The system was successfully tested on buses traveling from Goiânia in Goiás state to São Paulo, covering over 500 miles. Besides enriching passenger experience, this technology provides value by enabling better tracking and management of vehicle fleets. Additionally, it facilitates targeted advertising and a platform for collecting passenger feedback.

According to Andy Kessler, Vice President, Enterprise and Land Mobile at Viasat, the partnership with Satélite Norte exemplifies the transformative potential of consistent connectivity. He emphasized, “Reliable connectivity is transforming the passenger experience and helping operators digitize and elevate their entire operation.”

Satélite Norte views this connectivity as a unique selling point that distinguishes them from competitors. Waldir Sampaio, Executive Director of Satélite Norte, expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to enhance the passenger experience, stating that high-quality onboard connectivity is becoming a competitive edge. This innovation aligns with their mission to offer outstanding comfort, innovation, and a unique experience to their passengers.

Looking forward, Viasat plans to collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to integrate this solution into future buses, further highlighting their commitment to redefining passenger transport connectivity.
