Vodafone and Airbus Launch Secure Communication Service

Vodafone has joined forces with Airbus to deliver a robust communication solution designed for workers operating in high-risk or mission-critical environments. The collaboration will integrate Airbus’s Agnet platform—a secure, cloud-based communication service—with Vodafone’s extensive mobile infrastructure, enabling dependable, real-time coordination between field teams and centralized control hubs.

Agnet supports a wide range of communication tools, including voice, messaging, video streaming, location tracking, push-to-talk (PTT), and voice conferencing. This powerful combination aims to enhance collaboration, situational awareness, and operational safety across critical sectors such as public safety, utilities, and transportation.

Olivier Koczan, head of public safety and security at Airbus Defence and Space, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating that it merges Airbus’s security-focused communication technology with Vodafone’s far-reaching network. The result is a feature-rich, reliable system tailored to demanding environments.

The new service enables frontline personnel to transmit 360-degree video footage, share critical data instantly, and even trigger automatic alerts if a user falls or is incapacitated—an especially useful feature in hazardous conditions. The offering is compatible with iOS and select Android devices and comes in two versions: a basic model with PTT and messaging, and a premium option that includes video calling, emergency alerts, and real-time location sharing.

Initially focused on the European market, the multi-year partnership has ambitions to expand globally. Marika Auramo, CEO of Vodafone Business, emphasized the importance of supporting workers in vital sectors like energy and transport. She also pointed to the potential of combining this new offering with Vodafone’s existing Mission Critical Communications (MCx) service, launched in March, which prioritizes emergency communications during incidents.

Market analysts at Mordor Intelligence expect Europe’s public safety market to surge in the coming years, offering growth potential for companies like Vodafone and Airbus that invest in innovative partnerships and products.
