Wireless Logic Acquires Arqia, Expands IoT in Brazil

Wireless Logic, a prominent global player known for its rapid expansion strategy, has acquired Brazilian IoT MVNO Arqia. This move is part of its strategy to increase its presence in Latin America, aiming to boost its IoT airtime and service capabilities. Brazil, being one of the countries that bans permanent roaming, has posed a challenge to conventional IoT deployments. However, the acquisition of Arqia helps to circumvent these barriers effectively.

Established in 2011, Arqia is a significant player in the Brazilian MVNO landscape, holding one of only 15 MVNO licenses distributed by ANATEL, Brazil’s telecom regulator. As the largest MVNO in Brazil, Arqia specializes in providing IoT airtime services. The company has a solid foundation, being a part of the Datora Group, which has pioneered the MVNO model and specializes in wholesale voice and SMS.

The deal signifies a strategic win for Wireless Logic. “This move opens up direct access to Brazil’s market without needing new network infrastructure,” stated a company spokesperson. “It strengthens our standing as a reliable partner for enterprises seeking cross-border IoT connectivity.” The acquisition is expected to enhance the company’s ability to assist businesses in Latin America by increasing their IoT deployment capacities.

Recent trends in the telecommunications sector show that Wireless Logic’s aggressive acquisition strategies are not isolated events. Supported by the private equity firm Montagu, the company has made significant acquisitions in the last two years, including US-based MVNO Webbing, Blue Wireless, IoThink Solutions, and Mobius Networks. These acquisitions have expanded the company’s operations in Asia, North America, and Europe, thereby paving the way for technological enhancements like eSIM capabilities.

Arqia manages about three million IoT connections and employs around 200 people. Meanwhile, Wireless Logic claims a robust ecosystem, managing approximately 14 million IoT devices across 165 countries, serving 25,000 enterprise customers.

Tomas Fuchs, the CEO of Arqia, emphasized the importance of the deal, stating, “Joining the Wireless Logic Group is a major transition that will provide added value to our customers.” Oliver Tucker, CEO and co-founder of Wireless Logic, expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that Arqia’s expertise in the Latin American market is aligned with their global growth ambitions.
