Recently, our team at Google.org looked back at our most recent full year of philanthropic collaboration in Latin America to measure the impact and results, and today we’re sharing some of what we learned. In 2024, a year where over 70% of people in Latin America said they could see the benefits of AI, Google.org provided more than $15 million in funding to help 400,000 people across the region turn that potential into opportunity. A major amount of this support went to AI-related initiatives, with nonprofit organizations across Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay, focusing on three key areas.
1. Building skills for the future of work
A significant portion of the funding helped develop crucial digital and AI skills. Through supported organizations like the International Youth Foundation in Mexico, Identidades do Brasil and Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil, CENIA in Chile, Kodea in Peru, Fundación Estrategia País in Colombia, and Eidos Global and Chicos.net in Argentina, our programs trained individuals, communities, and local, regional and national government officials, preparing local talent for the growing digital economy.
2. Applying AI to social and environmental challenges
AI applied to sustainability and water management is a priority area where Google.org is supporting innovative solutions. In Brazil, Instituto Clima e Sociedade launched a call for proposals that drew over 400 ideas using AI and other technologies for climate and nature solutions. Furthermore, initiatives like those from Instituto Jataí, also in Brazil, and the Instituto Internacional de Manejo del Agua in Mexico are applying AI to promote sustainable practices, contributing to the region’s climate resilience and bioeconomy.
3. Promoting media literacy
Recognizing AI’s role in the information landscape, we also supported organizations dedicated to combating misinformation. In Brazil, an initiative with Instituto Palavra Aberta trained educators and students in media literacy, equipping them with the tools to critically engage with AI-related content.
Supporting local experts on the ground
AI’s global implementation can positively impact society by enhancing healthcare, education, economic growth and more. Google.org is dedicated to providing funding, tools and training to help Latin American leaders, workers and students harness AI’s potential for societal benefit.
Beyond this, we provided other forms of support throughout 2024. This included more than $67 million in no cost advertising through Ad Grants to help more than 2,800 nonprofits amplify their work. In addition, nonprofit organizations received more than $18 million in Workspace licenses free of charge, including access to the Gemini App and NotebookLM at no cost.
The true impact of this work lies in the hands of our supported organizations. Our goal in 2024 was to build on the incredible enthusiasm for AI across Latin America by supporting these experts on the ground.
To further this momentum, in 2025 we have expanded Google for Nonprofits, which provides no-cost and discounted tools to eligible nonprofits, to 25 more countries and territories across the region.
By combining funding with access to our most helpful tools — from Ad Grants to Gemini — we can help fuel the local innovation they are already leading to create lasting change in their communities.
