Instagram Adds Transition Editing and Saved Sounds to Edits

Instagram has announced the latest round of updates for its “Edits” video editing app, including improved overlays and transition editing, as well as saved sound effects, so you can more easily access your commonly used sounds, or those that you find when watching other clips.

First off, Edits will now enable you to convert clips into overlays, providing new creative options for your clips.

As you can see in this example, now, you can use your main clip as an overlay, so you can create a secondary background clip. Which could provide a range of interesting, visually engaging creative options for your Reels.

Edits is also giving you more control over the speed of fade-ins and fade-outs, adding more considerations for your transitions.

While as noted, you can also now save sound effects, so you can easily access key audio tracks for use in your projects.

Edits update

Instagram continues to add more functionality to its Edits platform, making it an even more valuable tool for creating and crafting your Reels projects.

And the right Reels projects can have a big impact. Meta recently reported that time spent watching video on Instagram has increased by 20% year-over-year, while it reported last November that 50% of all time spent in the app is within Reels clips.

As such, Meta wants more Reels content, as it looks to maximize user engagement, so its algorithms are now more aligned with amplifying video, and boosting views.

Which means that engaging video clips are key to boosting your IG presence, and with Edits continuing to add more creative tools, you now have more capacity than ever to create your own viral hits.

Indeed, since Edits was first launched back in April, Meta has added:

  • A range of additional fonts, filters and voice effects
  • Simplified transition editing
  • Playback frame rate selector
  • Beat markers for soundtrack alignment
  • Enhanced cropping options
  • Improved tracking sensitivity
  • Volume level editing
  • In-stream teleprompter
  • AI restyling options
  • Sticky notes for reference
  • Noise reduction tools
  • Expanded export options
  • Keyframe editing
  • Royalty-free music selection
  • Safe zone mapping
  • Reels analytics

Yeah, there’s a heap of functions and options in the app, and if you’re creating video, especially Reels, it’s definitely worth uploading your project to Edits and seeing what you can do to improve and refine your vision.

I mean, it’s free, why not?

You can download Edits in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.
