Threads has quietly integrated a handy new profile search feature, which will make it easier to find relevant posts and mentions from a specific user.
Also, it’s a direct copy of a feature that already exists on X, so it could also help to better align the app with migrating users as well.
As you can see in these example screens, now, when you tap the search magnifying glass icon while viewing a user profile, it will automatically pre-populate your search with a “From: username” tag, which means that whatever search term you enter will then be applied to that users’ account only.
So rather than searching the whole platform, you can hone in your search for posts from a specific user, which is a handy option to help you find relevant mentions and comments from a person or brand.
And as noted, it’s also the same as what X already offers.
Twitter has had a variation of this active for some time, with an official version of this specific process launched back in 2021.
So really, this update will better align Threads with what people are used to on X, and it is a handy, valuable option to have, especially when you’re looking for that one offer you saw in-stream, or that thing that person linked to about the thing that you’re talking about.
It’s a small step for Threads search in general, but another indicator of the platform’s ongoing evolution, and continued refinement of its discovery and engagement options.
Ideally, Threads wants to become more of a home for real-time discussion, in order to replace X as the real-time platform of choice. It’s not quite there yet, and the murder of Charlie Kirk once again showed that many people still turn to X for the latest updates, with X downloads surging in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
But the Threads team says that it is improving its algorithm on this front, and additional tweaks and updates like these will help to make it a fresher, more lively platform, which can be used for a range of news gathering and research purposes.
