We are excited to announce that Dr. Robert Abela, Malta’s Prime Minister, will officially open this year’s EU-Startups Summit 2025 in Valletta, setting the stage for two days of innovation, networking, and thought-provoking discussions.
Dr. Abela has played a pivotal role in shaping Malta’s economic and business landscape. Before stepping into politics, he built a successful career as a legal consultant, advising public entities, trade unions, and private organizations. Elected to Parliament in 2017, he later served as a legal adviser to the Cabinet of Ministers before being appointed Malta’s 14th Prime Minister in January 2020.
During his tenure, Dr. Abela has championed policies that strengthen Malta’s position as a competitive business hub. Under his leadership, the country has maintained record-low unemployment rates, enhanced its startup ecosystem, and implemented governance reforms that reinforce transparency and economic stability. His government has also introduced initiatives aimed at boosting foreign investment, supporting digital transformation, and creating a more innovation-driven economy.
As the EU-Startups Summit welcomes around 2,300 entrepreneurs, investors, and startup enthusiasts, Dr. Abela’s opening remarks will highlight Malta’s growing role as a gateway for startups looking to scale in Europe and beyond.
