Meta is bringing its latest artificial intelligence model to more users by expanding access to its new Muse Spark system across its apps, including Threads, where users will now be able to consult Meta AI via in-stream prompts.

Meta released its Muse Spark AI model last month. It’s the first project from the company’s AI Superintelligence team, which has been tasked with building advanced AI models to assist users with everyday functions. Muse Spark is able to provide in-depth advice, based on expanded reasoning, and Meta hopes this will drive usage of its AI tools.

Now, Threads users will be able to summon Muse Spark responses by tagging @meta.ai in a post or reply.

Meta AI on Threads

As explained by Meta: “If you’re using Threads there and your account is public, just tag @meta.ai in a post or reply and you’ll get an answer back. You can ask for anything from where to stream a movie to recipes for dishes you come across on Threads.”

So now, Threads users will have a constantly available AI chatbot to refer to in-stream.

Meta said that all @meta.ai responses on Threads will be text-only for now, and will be viewable by anybody in the app via the @meta.ai profile. Meta has also specified that Threads users will be able to mute the @meta.ai profile, or use the “Not interested” option on any Meta AI post, if they’d prefer not to have more AI-generated content infiltrating their feed.

AI content is going to reach user feeds one way or another, via Meta AI or some other app. But it is interesting to note the rising requirement for platforms to include an opt-out on such tools.

The update marks the first integration of AI tools into the Threads experience, providing another access point for Meta’s evolving AI models.

Meta is rolling out Meta AI on Threads to users in Argentina, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Singapore to begin with, while Meta is also rolling out expanded access to Muse Spark via the AI options in all of its apps.

Meta will also now enable users to talk to the Meta AI app via Voice Chat mode, and get answers from the tool.

Meta AI expansion

Now, users will be able to have conversations with Muse Spark and derive more in-depth responses from the bot.

Meta is also rolling out live AI in the Meta AI app, “so you can point your camera at the world and ask about what you’re seeing in real time,” the company said.

Meanwhile, the Meta AI app is getting a new Shopping Mode which will be able to search Facebook Marketplace listings and other product options from across the internet.

Meta AI expansion

Meta said it’s also expanding Muse Spark access to its latest model Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses in the U.S. and Canada. The company’s Ray-Ban Display model will get access to the company’s latest AI tools this summer.

As noted, Muse Spark is the first big project from Meta’s specialized AI development team, and Meta has invested hundreds of billions of dollars into the project.

The company hopes these tools will eventually provide all-new levels of utility for users, and that AI will become a critical part of everyday life. If that happens, then Meta could lead the way on the next major tech shift, which could change the way that people interact with the online world.

This still feels a way off, but these new integrations are another step towards Star Trek-like systems that can be summoned at any time to answer questions, undertake tasks and automate more parts of everyday life.
